Special Care Dentistry

The specialty of Special Care Dentistry aims to deliver holistic oral health services to individuals affected by physical, medical, developmental or cognitive impairments, which hinders their ability to access routine dental care. Our range of patients include young adults with disabilities or behavioural challenges to older adults with complex medical issues. Through customisation of care, our patients will receive the appropriate care they need to achieve good oral health and quality of life and to prevent future oral diseases.

• Modified examination and rational treatment protocols
• Coordination with caregivers, medical professionals and social workers
• Communicating strategies for each patient’s level of understanding and comfort
• Planning and preparing for additional sedation and anaesthesia in a hospital setting when appropriate
