The clinical practice of Endodontics focuses on the care and preservation of the dental pulp, the soft tissue inside the tooth responsible for sensation during functions such as chewing.
When the dental pulp becomes infected or damaged, often due to tooth decay or injury, the primary goal of endodontics is to save and preserve the natural tooth where possible. Endodontic treatment options include:
- Pulp protection treatment
- Root canal treatment for infected teeth
- Root-end surgery
- Intentional replantation of teeth
- Multi-disciplinary care (e.g., cracked and traumatised teeth in adults and children)
