Orofacial pain is a field of dentistry which encompasses the diagnosis and management of pain disorders in the jaw, mouth, face, head, and neck. The most common type of non-dental orofacial pain is Temporomandibular Disorders. This may present as jaw pain, limitation in jaw movements and/or joint sounds and is often linked to tooth-grinding and clenching (bruxism). Other types include Trigeminal Neuralgia, a chronic pain condition arising from irritation or damage to the nerve and Burning Mouth Syndrome, a pain disorder that commonly presents at the tongue.
At our clinic, we provide a comprehensive assessment to understand the cause of your pain and tailor a plan to manage your condition/s. Management strategies include counselling, medication, physical therapy, dental treatments, stress management and occasionally, surgery. We also work closely with the Multi-disciplinary Pain Unit in the National University Hospital to offer a broader range of care for patients.
