Dr Bernadette Quah is an Associate Consultant at the National University Centre for Oral Health Singapore and an Academic Fellow in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the National University of Singapore. She obtained her Master of Dental Surgery in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from NUS, where she was awarded the Henry Lee T L Medal for outstanding performance, and has obtained specialist accreditation with the Dental Specialists Accreditation Board. She previously completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at NUS with multiple distinctions, including the Dean’s List and the Academy of Medicine Medal.
While she is well-versed in all aspects of general oral and maxillofacial surgery, her clinical interests lie in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of oral premalignant and malignant lesions. In addition to the management of general oral and maxillofacial surgery patients, she is involved in the multidisciplinary care of patients with oral potentially malignant disorders (e.g. oral lichen planus, oral leukoplakia), oral cancer, and other complex mucosal diseases. She also contributes actively to the teaching of dental students in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery curriculum, and is the Module Coordinator for the Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine, Pathology and Radiology (OMOPOR) curriculum.
Dr Quah’s research interests span the multiomics profiling and personalised medicine for patients with oral lesions, as well as the applications of artificial intelligence in oral medicine, pathology, and surgery practice and education. She has published widely in peer-reviewed international journals and presented her work at multiple local and international conferences. Furthermore, she is currently pursuing a PhD at Karolinska Institutet, in collaboration with researchers from the National Cancer Centre Singapore, focusing on the study of oral leukoplakias.
Actively engaged in professional service, Dr Quah is a member of multiple regional and international specialty organisations and has received several awards for research excellence and academic achievement. She remains committed to advancing the understanding of oral mucosalised diseases, improving early detection and risk stratification of oral premalignant disorders, and integrating emerging technologies to enhance patient care and surgical education.
