Care for Seniors

2026/10/06

Maintaining good oral health is important at every stage of life. As we age, changes in our oral health, medical conditions, and medications may increase the need for more specialised and coordinated dental care. At NUCOHS, we support older adults in maintaining their oral health, function, and quality of life through personalised care tailored to individual needs.

Why Oral Health Matters as You Age

Oral health is closely linked to overall health and wellbeing. Healthy teeth and gums support eating, speaking, social interaction, and good nutrition, all of which contribute to healthy ageing.

According to the National Adult Oral Health Survey, only 56% of Singaporeans aged 55 years and above have 20 or more natural teeth, highlighting the importance of preventive care and early intervention throughout life.

Specialised Care for Older Adults

At NUCOHS, we provide personalised dental care for older adults, including those with:
• Multiple medical conditions and complex healthcare needs
• Physical disabilities or reduced mobility
• Cognitive impairment and dementia
• Oral health conditions requiring specialist management

Our care plans are tailored to each patient's oral health status, medical condition, functional needs, and treatment goals.
For seniors who require more specialised support, our Special Care Dentistry teams provide dental care for older adults with complex medical and dental needs.

Care Close to Home

NUCOHS provides specialist dental services across three locations in western Singapore:

• National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore (NUCOHS) at Kent Ridge
• NUCOHS @ Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH)
• NUCOHS @ Alexandra Hospital (AH)

Our network of clinics improves access to specialist dental care and supports continuity of care closer to where patients live.

Through preventive care, specialist expertise, and a multidisciplinary approach, NUCOHS aims to help older adults maintain oral health, preserve function, and enjoy a better quality of life as they age.
